Artist Ross Laurie lives with his family on a property at Walcha, on the Northern Tablelands of NSW. He left the land to study art in Sydney and London but is now immersed in the Australian landscape every day. Laurie’s intimate knowledge of, and familiarity with the natural environment is easily recognised in his works in international collections.

Late last year Anne Ryan, Art Gallery of NSW Curator, Australian prints, drawings and watercolours drew attention to Laurie’s environment and his work in her blog www.artgallery.nsw.gov.au/blog/posts/art-on-the-farm/ "As the ute reached higher ground, the plants changed, and everywhere I looked around in the landscape I began to recognise forms and colours from Laurie’s drawings and paintings. Watching the clouds and bursts of welcome rain approach in the quiet, broken only by the occasional birdcall or bovine bellow, was a calming, immensely satisfying experience and one that made perfect sense of his art. ...Most of all, my time on these farms underlined the importance of place for the artists whose bonds with the land, forged over a lifetime, are inextricably intertwined with their art."

Idris Murphy, one time head of Drawing at the National Arts School is a highly respected teacher. Murphy’s paintings dance along a line between figuration and abstraction while depicting a wholly unique vision of the Australian landscape. His works are represented in a distinguished group of National and International collections.

Four times Miles Franklin Award winner Tim Winton wrote on Paul Martin and Idris Murphy’s works, “Here are two painters who've learnt to look at natural forms so keenly and humbly that theirs has become, each in their own way, and in separate hemispheres, a listening gaze. Their reverent attention seems to have left them open to the steady returning stare of a creation that groans in travail even as it feeds us. The world we see in their recent work has been transformed and illuminated through their loving attention and in turn, over the decades, as artists, they have clearly been changed.” Tim Winton, Edgelands, 2015
