Art Therapy & Chronic Pain

Art Therapy & Chronic Pain

A CREATIVE LOOK AT CHRONIC PAIN
This is a drop in course and is free of charge.

Monday 9 September – 4 November
10am – 12pm

Please call us in the office first if you are interested in attending on 02 9958 6540.

This workshop looks at your experience of pain and is an opportunity for you to benefit from creative approaches that add to your self-care and management toolbox. Art therapy is combined with mindfulness and distress tolerance, building insights and skills intended to lower perceptions of and shift attention away from pain. It also provides an environment to share the impact of chronic pain on your life with others experiencing similar challenges.

It doesn’t matter what art experience you have as artworks are created for the process not the product in a space that fosters participation, sense of connection to others and to the community.

The 2 hour workshop each week includes a tea/coffee break and will be followed by a light lunch. The art studio is located in an accessible room in street level cottage attached to the Workshop Arts Centre at 33 Laurel Street Willoughby. A small questionnaire will be given to and returned by participants prior to attending the workshop. An opportunity to speak with the art therapist will be made available to all participants. An outline of sessions and list of material will be provided. However some art materials will be included. Includes drawing, painting and sculptural forms.

This workshop is run by a trained art therapist and is not intended to provide advice on medical matters or to substitute consultation with a physician or any other allied health practitioner.

This program is supported thanks to funding by WIlloughby City Council.
