SPRING HOLIDAY WORKSHOP - Between Printing & Painting

We will begin by using the painterly print techniques of monoprint, combined with drypoint, collograph or printing from any other textured support. Torn, folded, frayed paper is then used to conjure up textile - like strata of landscape etc. Three days of ‘papier colle’ combined with drawing print and paint will make for a very busy print studio. This course is for those wanting to discover the exciting medium of the ‘artist original print’ suitable for beginners and advanced artists. Both traditional and more experimental methods are taught. These include intaglio and relief print methods eg zinc plate traditional etching, drypoint, collagraphs, solar plates and many other layered techniques to produce an image. “Learning how to make a printable surface is just one step, knowing possibilities of how to print this surface is another!” There is an emphasis on safe work practices in the studio. Relief Printmaking

An introduction into various methods of relief printing including European and Japanese. Each student will work independently, developing a variety of printing techniques and fostering their artistic expression at their own pace. Five weeks of Independent Print Studio Maintenance, Management, and Competency Mentorship. These workshops are for experienced printmakers only. Printmakers are expected to bring their own paper, inks and blankets. This 15 hours print studio mentorship should equip participants with the knowledge to hire the WAC Print studio independently. Issues covered include Press Maintenance and Settings, Print Studio management and OH&S in the Print Studio. Starts Thursday 27 May.
