Students will be encouraged to broaden their horizons using techniques in layers of acrylic, watercolour, ink, pastels, gouache and collage. They will explore colour, tone, form and texture as a means to achieving mixed media and acrylic works. Themes may include landscape, still life, figure, portrait and personal projects. Students will be taught to capitalise on mistakes and problem solve in layers. Students own marks and unique style are of primary importance. There is different experimental work each term. All skill levels.

Students will learn the theory of colour and pigment characteristics, and to control broad washes of heavily pigmented colour, working on French papers and rice papers. Studio work will be enhanced with Mo-Ku demonstrations, experimentations, visits to AGNSW, some field work and researching relevant artists’ practices.

Printmaking - with a focus on colour

This course invites beginners as well as advanced participants to join Seraphina as she guides you through many aspects of colour application in printmaking. Printmaking techniques include: monoprinting, traditional zinc plate etching, drypoint etching, solar plate etching and collagraph etching will be covered with attention to a safe work ethic. Colour will be emphasised in both traditional multi plate methods as well as experimental applications using rollers for Viscosity colour process and stencil devise. Create a stunning portfolio of state of the art prints in a short time for display at home, exhibition or a local art competition. Some materials included.

This 4 hour course caters for absolute beginners and students with some prior knowledge of working with clay. The course will cover various aspects of handbuilding and wheel work with projects set, investigating a diverse range of surface treatment, including underglaze painting, sgraffito, wax resist and decorating with slips. Advanced students may also join the class to work on self directed projects that involve a more thorough exploration of ceramic techniques, with the assistance of the tutor. Cost includes $25 firing fee.
